A Mindful Approach to the New Year

The clock is ticking as we near the year 2024.  Are you that person who has already been thinking about what “New Year’s Resolution” you will set?

You are not alone.

I used to set resolutions and they would be broken within the first week of January,  leaving me to feel like I had failed, that I did not possess enough mental strength or have the willpower to follow through on a resolution that I had set.

Here are a few examples from my past? Here goes:

  • Consume only one sweet treat one day a week,

  • No potato chips (really?, me without potato chips is like a caged animal),

  • Eat only healthy foods and snacks, aka: no processed foods (again, I am thinking of potato chips).

  • Exercise every day for 60 minutes (seriously folks, I have to burn those potato chips off!)

Resolutions do not work!

The Fisher College of Business states that  only 9% of Americans that make resolutions complete them. In fact, research goes on to show that 23% of people quit their resolutions by the end of the first week, and 43% quit by the end of January.

Resolutions are difficult in their follow through or pose too many restrictions causing friction between you and that objective.

What is the ultimate goal?

  • To reduce inflammation within our bodies?

  • Have fewer cravings?

  • Sleep through the night?

  • To age gracefully?

  • Increase our energy?

  • Feel good in our clothes?

  • Reverse or improve medical problems we are experiencing?

Each of us has the ability to create and make change.
