Reflection

Last week marked the celebration of my 55th birthday, and it's astonishing to reflect on the fact that I've been on this earth for 56 years. I have found that turning 55 has me in contemplation mode.

Let me take you on a little journey of what has been going through my mind…..

Winter cravings: A few weeks ago, I was craving my favorite breakfast:  Eggs Benedict. What did I realize? My body does not appreciate the heavy butter and eggs that make up this decadent dish. It made me rethink not only what I eat but also how I approach fueling my body. Eggs Benedict is being reimagined, plant-based style. Stay tuned for an update!

A plant-based lifestyle: Taking ownership of a plant-based lifestyle hasn't been an easy journey, but it has evolved over the years. Four years ago, my husband and I shifted to a plant-based way of eating, a choice brought about by the loss of my mother and the research rabbit hole that I had gone down.  What have I realized? Eating whole food plant-based makes us feel great, although it can be difficult when eating outside of our home, we’ve also learned a few tricks.

Embracing aging: I am embracing the aging process with fierceness, I am engaging in conversations that some might shy away from—specifically, perimenopause and menopause. These discussions with fellow women,  provide a valuable exchange of knowledge and conversations in which I am forever grateful for, the resources we share are invaluable.

Living an active lifestyle: I love to row, as well as hike, bike, walk distances,, kayak and engage in yoga, all of which motivate me to continue my commitment to weight training. Beyond enhancing balance and flexibility, weight training empowers me. I am stronger in the sports that I love and I am fighting the fight against osteoporosis brought on by reduced levels of hormones in women as we age.

55, Really? Despite reaching the age of 55, I don't feel it. According to my Garmin, my activity level reflects that of a 35-year-old—a fact that brings a smile to my face. (Yes, I know that this is a data game yet it is fun information to consider.)

Family & Friends: Family and friends hold an irreplaceable place in my life and each close friend holds a special place in my heart. These friends are my sounding boards and support system. The females in my life are strong, fierce women who stand firm in their values and beliefs. My family serves as the unwavering roots of my foundation—supportive and encouraging.

Roots & Roses: Running a business is undeniably challenging yet rewarding. I miss sharing personal connections, and getting to know folks.  As we look forward to the spring, there will be a few changes in the way in which we connect with you, our customers.  Your support and the trust you place in our meals and workshops mean the world to us.

Wandering thoughts: As I was driving to the Seacoast last week, my thoughts wandered, wondering what the next 30 healthy years might entail. (I have no desire to live the next 30ish years of my life as an unhealthy human.) I've already started a mental list of places I'd like to explore, firmly believing that when I set my mind to something, I will make it happen. Who knows, maybe there is a plant-based travel excursion in the future of this business.

Curiosity: Curiosity will lead me to what the future holds. Connecting with others through their stories, continuous learning,  surrounding myself with like minded people and of course, being out in mother nature.

Now that I have shared my mindless wanderings, tell me, what do you appreciate in your life? Send us an email, we’d love to hear from you!
