My Moai

In his book, the “Blue Zones”, Dan Buttener writes about the benefits of having a community of friends that support each other. Derived from Okinawa, Japan, one of the original blue zones longevity hotspots, individuals live extraordinarily better and longer lives than almost anyone else in the world.

Moai, one of their longevity traditions, are social support groups that start in childhood and extend into the 100s.

The “moai” that I am referring to from this past weekend are my rowing friends. We (Squam Community Rowing) will gather  most mornings at Squam Lake as we ready ourselves to enter the water on rowing shells.  Although I have not known each person since childhood, I receive a great many benefits from my community.   Rowers are compassionate, encouraging, are often leaders, and they persevere through most anything. Each person is encouraging, supportive, compassionate and are 

Here at Roots & Roses, we are creating our own “moai” of plant-based enthusiasts through a supper club. Our first Supper Club will be held on May 17th at 6:00pm in Plymouth, NH. 

We welcome everyone who loves to eat plant-forward, connect with others and learn from each other.
