Unexpected Surprises

In the month of August, there is a “National Share your Zucchini Day”. Folklore is that in order to celebrate this holiday to the fullest, you can't just text your friends to let them know you're making a delivery or knock on your neighbor's door. According to Farmers Almanac, the proper way to partake is to wait "until the dead of night" to sneak over and leave your zucchini on their porch (as the name of the holiday implies). The goal here is to complete your zucchini-sharing mission without getting caught, so your neighbors can't give it back to you.

We had a “Share your Bags of Lentils Day” here this week!

My husband has a routine of checking the mail upon arriving home each night. Reaching into the mailbox, he pulled out our typical mail and was surprised that his fingers hit upon something else. Looking inside he pulled out 4 bags of lentils.

Of course I asked questions, was there a note, were they wrapped up with a note, were there any clues as to who might have left them? No, nope, and then the exasperated look appeared on his face, the one that states that I was asking too many questions.

IS there such a thing as too many questions?  I have a need to satisfy my curiosity!

Living in a small, rural, community, I am not surprised that someone left lentils! I’ve arrived home to find plants on our walkway, fresh bread, muffins and cookies on our porch, boxes in the barn (to use for mulching) and other fun, useful items.

I’d love to know who left these protein packed gems so I could say a proper thank you and perhaps return a bag with several recipes.

I love our community!

Speaking of community, we are hosting our first
“Supper Club” this Wednesday, May 17th at 6:00pm in Plymouth, N.H. The supper club idea is to bring like minded veggie forward thinking folks together to enjoy a meal.  We set it up as a pot-luck with a nominal fee to cover the use of the room rental. Now I know that you are all super busy so I’ve added an option to join us at a slightly higher fee and I’ll do the cooking. Mexican is the theme but any plant-based food item works.

Now, I wonder if there is a “National Leave Lentils in your Neighbors Mailbox Day” or should we here at Roots & Roses create one!
